When Peter Copping joined Oscar de la Renta he appeared a great fit due to the exquisite uptown creations of his former role at Nina Ricci.
His new show for Oscar demonstrated that he can also delve into the Latin ancestry of the founding designer when he so wishes.
In an unashamedly eveningwear collection, Copping decided to major on Latino signatures such as vibrant crimson and black lace, a Carmen pump, matador beading and flamenco flounces.
The girls with their strict centre partings and matt ruby lips walked to the sound of tumultuous and passionate strings which lent an expressly “grown-up” ambiance to the show and emphasised the sophisticated place in New York fashion that Oscar de la Renta owns.
