The 14th Venice Architecture Biennale Festival has opened, with installations, exhibitions and pavilions popping up all over this historic city and the lagoon.

A must for anyone interested in new architectural trends, the festival runs for six months and is a great way to explore the lesser-known corners of Venice.

One of my favourite pieces is Heinz Mack’s Sky Over Nine Columns, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Consisting of nine, seven-meter high golden mosaic columns, the installation reflects the sun and moon as they shine over Venice and is mirrored in the surrounding water.
