Dutch practice West 8, working with Spanish architects RCR and landscape architects Aldayjover, has won a competition to design the Segrera Linear Park in Barcelona.

The 4km-long green corridor runs from the fringe of the city to the heart of the centre, along the tunnelled route of the new “very fast train” from France to Barcelona Sagrera/Sans.

Through the construction of the new line, urban precincts on either side of the route have been opened up, and will now be linked by a series of parks.

West 8’s winning entry, called Cami Cotal, features covered walkways for pedestrians and cyclists alongside pause points with cafés and seating areas.
