PRP has been shortlisted for four Housing Design Awards (HDA) including one for Trees, its sheltered housing scheme for the elderly in north London.

Standing in the Highgate Conservation Area and named after the many mature trees surrounding it, the development involved the demolition of two existing buildings that were highly regarded yetno longer suitable for elderly care.

PRP’s scheme, for Hill Homes and One Housing Group, provides 40 extra-care self-contained flats for older people as well as shared facilities such as lounges, a hairdressing salon and therapy room and landscaped gardens.

Design principles include a permeable plan containing smaller clusters of homes arranged around an internal atrium which promotes neighbourliness and maximises natural daylight.

Two of PRP’s other shortlisted projects are also specialist housing schemes. The fourth is the 5.7ha Wornington Green Estate, the largest regeneration scheme in Kensington & Chelsea for decades, which will see the number of homes doubled.

The HDA awards will be announced on July 14.
