Former Wales international outside-half Arwel Thomas has been named as captain of Neath..

Neath director of rugby Patrick Horgan says the 34-year-old Trebanos-born player is the ideal man for the task.

“Arwel has all the necessary attributes to fulfil the role. There are not many more experienced operators in the Premiership,” Horgan said.

“As the last two [Swalec] Cup finals have shown, Arwel can run and control a game like no other.”

Neath begin the new campaign with a Principality Premiership match away to Bedwas at the Bridge Field on Saturday.
