A Coventry couple, who have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, have been reunited… with a bus.

Jim and Maureen Bailey worked on the buses in Coventry over 50 years ago and have seen their beloved 1963 Daimler, soon to be at the NEC in Birmingham.

They credit the number 333 bus, which they both drove, in playing a part in their lasting romance.

The bus was also the last ever rear entrance bus used in the West Midlands.

Jim Bailey said: “We remember our routes well and had regulars that we would chat with, swapping news and gossip. The Daimler was a joy to drive and we loved that people could hop on and off at the back - it was just like On the Buses!”

The bus was built by Metro Cammell Weymann in Birmingham and the Daimler works in Coventry and was based at the city’s Sandy Lane depot.

The Coventry Corporation bus and other items from the Coventry Transport Museum will be on show at the Antiques for Everyone fair at the NEC from 8-11 April.
