About 100 to 120 reports of new potholes are received every day by Worcestershire Council.

The authority said it has repaired 8,300 potholes since the end of the cold weather in January, at a cost of between £200,000 and £300,000.

It has also received 675 requests for compensation from drivers who said potholes had damaged their vehicles.

Herefordshire Council has received 150 claims and repaired 17,000 potholes this year.

It costs about £60 to fill one pothole, and Herefordshire contractors Amey has increased the speed at which they can be repaired by using a new device, the authority said.

Herefordshire Council has received reports of 2,427 potholes since the beginning of March and found 10,453 more as a result of these reports.
